Healing Prayer Team

There is incredible hope brought to many because healing prayers are offered on behalf of those who are hurting. This team receives training and support as they work in teams to pray with members of our church community who desire prayer. This typically takes place on the first Sunday of each month, in the Chapel following each of the worship services.

Love Meals… Preparing Love

Cooks gather in the kitchen and prepare several dozen casseroles which are frozen and then delivered to members of our church community who could use some encouragement. It’s a fun group and it serves a vital support role in our church.

Prayer Shawls and Chemo Caps

This group of friends gathers once a month to knit prayer shawls together. After there are more than a dozen made, they are blessed in one of our worship services and then given to those who are ill or recuperating. It is a tangible sharing of the love and warmth of Christ.

Pew Bears

Have you noticed those bears in the pews or have you received one? They bring joy and hope to many who are going through a difficult patch or could use a little bit of encouragement. We need folks who can attach prayer cards on the bears with a ribbon and who can make sure there are plenty of bears in the pews during the particular month you serve. Members of this team will receive some basic training to get you started.

Senior Adult (PrimeTimers) Leadership Team

There is no exact age when a person becomes a “senior.” Some say 55 or 60 and others 62. We say if you visit our group and are blessed by your experience, you are welcome. This team plans and coordinates all of our activties- monthly luncheon, monthly outings, service projects and annual trips.

OneBlood – Blood Donors

One Sunday every other month, members of Hyde Park roll up their sleeves and give the gift of life by donating blood to OneBlood. Donations made at other sites may also be credited to Hyde Park, if donors indicate they are members of this congregation. To avoid waiting to donate blood, courtesy appointments are available.

Bike Repair Ministry

Each Sunday, 8-10 a.m., members of our Bike Repair Ministry meet at the church to help repair bicycles belonging to our Open Arms guests. This ministry provides a much-needed service to the community. Bicycles enable the homeless and working poor to meet their transportation needs and a working, safe bicycle is vital.

Cold Weather Shelter

Hyde Park United Methodist serves as a Hillsborough County cold weather shelter when local temperatures dip to or below 40 degrees with wind chill in Hillsborough County.
The Hyde Park United Methodist cold weather shelter opens at 6 p.m. (6:30 p.m. Wednesdays) on cold weather nights and is open to adult men and adult women who are homeless or for those who live in homes without adequate heat. Guests depart the following morning at 6:30 a.m. Pets are not permitted in the shelter.

As a fundraiser, Merge sells Christmas trees and they are delivered usually at the beginning of December. Volunteers are needed for about 3 hours in the late afternoon to help load Christmas trees onto cars.

Volunteers needed to lead a group of middle and high school students through our curriculum for confirmation students. Commitment is for 10 weeks Sunday evenings from 5:30-8 p.m., plus a retreat weekend.

Merge Game Leader

Merge Small Group Leader
DAY: Sunday // HOW OFTEN: Weekly
Sunday Night Merge is split into six middle school small groups (one for each grade and gender) and high school Merge is split into four small groups (one group per grade level). Each small group has two co-leaders. We are looking for committed adults who love teenagers, have gifts in shepherding and hospitality. They lead the small group time of Merge and help shepherd them throughout the evening. They also connect with students weekly via social media, text and email. This is a weekly commitment over the school year from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday evenings.

Christmas Party Decorating

Parent Coordinator

Volunteers needed for a twelve-month commitment to serve on our Merge Adult Council (MAC), which helps lead and set goals for Youth Ministries. The volunteer would help coordinate parents and adults serving in different areas of our ministry throughout the year.

Youth Praise Team Singer Leader

We are looking for an adult who sings regularly and can help lead our students on the Youth Praise Team, 3:45-5:30 p.m., Sundays. Ideally, we would like this person to teach the Youth Praise Team songs for worship, teach harmony and melody. Commitment could be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.

Big Game Party Decorating Team

On Super Bowl Sunday, Merge has an evening party to watch the game with our students. Adults needed to plan decorations and food and also to set up before the party in the Magnolia Building.

College Ready Leader

This is a 6 week class on Sunday mornings for one hour each week. Volunteers needed to help lead graduating high school seniors through the curriculum that helps prepare students for college.

Gasparilla Parking Volunteer

Adult and youth volunteers needed for this Youth Ministries fundraiser to help park cars at the church during the Children’s Gasparilla Parade; usually 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., one Saturday in January.

Volunteers needed 5-6 p.m. to pick up dinner at a local restaurant that will have already been ordered and paid for before pick up, deliver food to the Magnolia building, collect dinner fee from students and clean up.

Tuesday Night High School Home Group Host
DAY: Weekday // HOW OFTEN: Advent, Lent, Summer
Families needed to host home groups for high school students on Tuesday evenings during Advent, Lent and summer months. The host family will be reimbursed to provide a meal for the students. Most curriculums require the use of a television and DVD player. The host family can choose the time of year that works best for them.

Youth Praise Team Instrumental Leader

We are looking for an adult who can help lead students on the Youth Praise Team 3:45-5:30 p.m., Sundays. The volunteer should be able to read piano music, understand guitar chords and have good rhythm. Commitment could be weekly, bi-weekly or monthly.
