Hyde Park United Methodist serves as a Cold Night Shelter on nights when the temperature, including wind chill, is forecast to drop below 40°.

Hillsborough County’s Department of Homeless Services is the agency responsible for asking that shelters are opened.

Hyde Park’s Harnish Activities Center opens at 6 p.m. on all evenings except Wednesdays, when it opens at 6:30 p.m. We will accept guests until our maximum number is reached. Guests will depart the following morning at 6:30 a.m.

Pets ARE NOT permitted in this shelter, however, Hillsborough County provides a pet-friendly shelter at Jackson Springs Recreation Center, 8620 Jackson Springs Road in Town ‘N Country. Phone: 813.554.5004. Pets must be leashed and owners are encouraged to bring crates, food, blankets and medication for their pets.

Upcoming Shelters

  • A Cold Night Shelter will not be held on Saturday, Feb. 29. Hillsborough County has determined temperatures will not reach the required threshold.

Volunteers are always welcome and needed to serve at these Shelters. The most effective way to participate is to register to be a part of the Cold Night Shelter small group using this link. Once a shelter has been declared, an email with a specific link to register for that event will be sent to members of this group.
