Girl Scout week is March 12-18, and we are thankful for the seven Girl Scout Troops that meet here at Hyde Park United Methodist: Troop 2214, Troop 1327, The Gorrie Elementary Troop, Troop 2205, Troop 1297, Troop 1457 and Troop 2210.

Girl scouts are encouraged to discover their interests, connect with others and take action to make the world a better place.

The first Girl Scout troop was formed in Savannah, Georgia in 1912. The second was in 1913 here at Hyde Park United Methodist.

For Girl Scout week, the Girl Scouts of West Central Florida gave the following thank-you message to all the houses of worship that host girl scout troops:

Girl Scouts salutes all houses of worship for their dedication and support of the positive development of girls everywhere. Thank you.

We thank all the volunteers and members in our communities for their time, talent and financial support. That spirit of volunteerism and support makes it possible for us to continue to be the best leadership experience for girls–today, tomorrow and always.
