Administrative Support Ministries

General administrative assistance
Assist with general administrative tasks such as typing, filing, organizing materials, etc. Time commitment is flexible.

Receptionist
Assist staff receptionist with general administrative tasks and answering phones. Time commitment is 2-5 hours per week, or occasional.

Super Stuffer
Gather at church Fridays to fold the Sunday worship bulletin and insert Daily Discipleship Journal.


Adult Education Ministries

Adult Education team               
Support, equip and communicate with facilitators of groups and classes.

Beginnings facilitator               
Lead 12-week study of basic Christian beliefs. Time commitment is three hours per week.

Bible from Scratch facilitator

Lead 12-week Bible from Scratch course (an overview of the Bible.)
Time commitment is three hours per week.

Covenant Group facilitator
Coordinate small group meetings that are based on a covenant that is agreed upon by the group. Time commitment is nine months.

Disciple Bible Study facilitator              
Lead a 32-week Disciple Bible Study. Time commitment is 7.5 hours per week.

Financial Peace University facilitator
Lead a 13-week Financial Peace University course. Time commitment is three hours per week.

Media Center volunteer
Check in returned books; check mailbox in office for periodicals and other Media Center items and bring to Media Center; re-shelve resources; perform a routine audit of shelves to locate missing or misplaced books. Time commitment is 30 minutes to one hour per week.

One-time event coordinator
Work with a team (four people) to plan and promote a lecture series once a month. Time commitment is three hours per month.

Short-term study facilitator
Lead a short-term, small group study. Time commitment is two hours per week.

Sunday School facilitator
Facilitate various studies on Sunday mornings. Build a sense of
community among groups of people. Time commitment is two hours per week.

Wesley group facilitator
Facilitate a group for encouragement, accountability, Bible study,
service and prayer. Time commitment is 2-4 hours per week.


Bookstore and Coffee Shop

Family Ministries

Family Discipleship Group Facilitator
Lead and facilitate a 3-10 week small group for parents, grandparents or other adult family members to discover how to better guide their children along the Discipleship Pathway using the seven spiritual practices as a guide. Time commitment is 60-90 minutes per week in the small group and approximately 60 minutes per week in preparation.

MOPS steering committee
The MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers) steering committee plans, organizes, supports or facilitates morning or evening meetings of MOPS. Some planning is done over the summer months. Meetings are held twice a month Sept. - May on campus and are open to all mothers with children ages newborn - kindergarten.

New baby team
Create opportunities to welcome and assist parents expecting children (through birth or adoption.) Time commitment is two hours per month.

Miscellaneous Ministries

Administrative volunteer
Support the Children’s Ministry office with regular and seasonal administrative tasks (data entry, copying, folding, stuffing, mailing, etc.) Time commitment is flexible but mostly during regular business hours.

Special events planning team (palm processional, Easter, Family Fun Nights)
Assist the Director of Special Events with planning and working these events. Time commitment is seasonal and flexible.

Vacation Bible School
Serve on one of the many teams that makes Vacation Bible School possible. A wide range of volunteer opportunities are available like leadership, construction, tech, decorations, appreciation, missions, games, Bible, crafts, music and crew leading. You can serve in ways that help prepare for the week of VBS (June 25-29, 2012) or you can serve each day during the week.

Sunday/Wednesday Ministries

Greeter/Registration team
Welcome guests and assist with check-in process, escort to classrooms and provide tours of the Wesley Center. Time commitment is 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. or 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. Sundays, or 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, 1-4 times a month.

Large group leader
Lead and organize the large group worship experience at the beginning of each hour; Work with ages 3, 4 and kindergarten or grades 1-5. Time commitment is 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. or 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. Sundays, or 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, 1-4 times a month.

Music leader
Lead and organize the worship music at the beginning of each hour. Work with ages 3, 4 and kindergarten or grades 1-5. Time commitment is 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. or 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. Sundays, or 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, 1-4 times a month.

Nursery volunteer
Love, rock and play with babies and toddlers. Paid staff does all diaper changes. Time commitment is 1.5 hours on Sundays, once a month.

Small group shepherd
Teach or assist with the 30-minute small group lesson and nurture a relationship with 10-15 children. Time commitment is 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. or 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. Sundays, or 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, 1-4 times a month.

Supply team
Assist the volunteers and staff with preparing and organizing supplies needed for Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings. Time commitment is flexible.

Tech team
Assist volunteers and staff with tech set-up, operations and clean up. Time commitment is 9:15 - 9:45 a.m. or 10:45 - 11:15 a.m. Sundays, or 6:15 - 6:45 p.m. Wednesdays, 1-4 times a month.

Communications team
Participate in planning creative communications and marketing efforts for the congregation and community. Time commitment varies; meets monthly.

Connection Point team
Provide warm welcome to members and guests who are new to Hyde Park or want information about the church. Time commitment varies; serve Sunday mornings.

Online communications (web, blog)
Help plan, develop and maintain website, blog and other digital communications.

Pew folder team
Replenish pew folders and pew racks in the Sanctuary with welcome cards and other information. Time commitment is 1-2 hours weekly.

Photography ministry
Join a team of photographers who photograph church activities and members Making God’s Love Real for publicity and publications. Time commitment varies.

Write for Hyde Park Life
Share stories of how God is transforming lives at Hyde Park; conduct interviews; write and edit articles. Time commitment varies from 2-20 hours per quarter.

Prayer Ministries

Healing Ministry prayer team
Pray for people requesting prayers following services. Time commitment is one hour the first Sunday of each month.

Intercessory prayer team
Pray for people who submit prayer requests at the Ministry Offices reception desk, church website or Sunday welcome cards. Team participants are needed weekly; time commitment varies. This is an “at home” ministry.

Knitter for Prayer Shawl Ministry
Knit prayer shawls for people who are in need of comfort. Prayer Team prays over shawls and delivers them to families. Time commitment is up to the participant.

Transportation Ministries

Carpoolers for Christ provide transportation to medical appointments
Provide needed transportation to those who are unable to drive. Time commitment is 1-2 hours a month.

Visitation Ministries

Hospital visitor
Visit with people who are in the hospital. Time commitment varies on an “as needed” basis.

Visit the home bound
Visit with church members who are home bound and those in assisted living facilities or in nursing homes. Time commitment is 1-2 hours a month.

Other Care Ministries

Love Meals
Prepare food for delivery to families following hospitalization or death in the family. Time commitment varies.

Pew Bear Ministry
Monitor the supplies needed for the ministry; check for adequate number of bears in the pews in the Sanctuary and Chapel; tie informational tags around the bears’ necks and restock the bears in the pews as necessary. Time commitment is 3-4 hours a month. Volunteers serve for one month at a time, usually not more than two months a year.

Attendance Taker Ministry
Enter attendance information from welcome cards into database. Time commitment is two hours three times a year.

Fall Serve Day team
Serve with a team to coordinate and implement the yearly Serve Day for the entire congregation. Time commitment is Aug. - Nov., attend a few meetings.

Fall Stewardship team
Serve to implement the Fall Stewardship emphasis for the congregation. Time commitment varies June - Nov.

First Time Guest Connector
Make contact with our first time guests and help them get acclimated to Hyde Park. Follow up with them periodically to help them find their way, answer questions and find their place.

Host Discover Hyde Park Pastor’s Coffee
Create a welcoming atmosphere during the Pastor’s Coffee for people new to Hyde Park. Make and set out coffee and refreshments. Time commitment is three hours a month with different team members serving different months.

Inactive Reconnector
Make contact with people who have become inactive and help them reconnect to the church. Time commitment is 1-2 hours per week.

New Member Class facilitator
Assist in coordination, preparation and facilitation of New Member Classes. Time commitment is two hours a week for six weeks.

New Member Connector
Facilitate connecting conversations with new members to help them discern their next step in discipleship and connect them into the life of the church. Time commitment is two hours a month.

New Member Lunch Host
Host a new member class and the pastors at your home and/or assist with the food preparation. Time commitment is 1-2 Sundays per year.

Provide a campus tour to guests and visitors to welcome them to Hyde Park. Answer any questions and invite visitors to the Discover Hyde Park Pastor’s Coffee. Time commitment is one hour a week on a rotating basis.

Invitational Evangelism class facilitator
Provide a learning experience where a small group can explore together how they might grow in the spiritual discipline of Invitational Evangelism.

Medical First Responder
Coordinate our response to any medical conditions that arise on Sunday mornings.

Parking Lot Greeter
Assist guests with parking; greet and welcome first time guests.Time commitment is one hour a month.

Usher team member

Alternative Christmas Market team
Coordinate a gift fair in the fall that would align the meaning of Christmas with alternative gift-giving opportunities. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Serve in an organized effort to those affected by natural disasters. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Graphics and computer support for Missions Book
Compile, update and edit the Missions Book. Time commitment is 3-4 hours per month September through January.

Green Team
Environmental stewardship through education, organization and action. Help the church reduce its environmental footprint.

H.O.M.E.S.
Offer mentoring, education and support by working with formerly homeless families. Help to stabilize families by offering supportive services. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Manna Ministry
Assemble bags with items to give to impoverished individuals. Assist in Courtyard distribution. Time commitment is 1-2 hours per month.

Missions celebration event
Plan and implement the Missions Celebration held during the spring. Time commitment is 2-3 hours per month from fall to spring.

Missions and Outreach team
Develop strategies to involve more people in overall vision of missions. Provide tangible assistance to support mission efforts, steering committee and mission servants. Time commitment is two hours per month.

Open Arms
Prepare and serve food to ministry recipients; warmly receive and respect those being served. Organize the clothes closet. Time commitment is 8-10 a.m. one Sunday per month.

Second Saturday Service Project
Partnership with Tampa’s Code Enforcement Diversionary Program and Elder Link. Assist elderly and/or disabled people with lawn maintenance and other compliance issues. Time commitment is as needed, 8:30 a.m.-noon.

Sparrow Fund
Provide referrals and take applications for emergency assistance at Metropolitan Ministries. Time commitment is two hours per week.

Tutoring
Individual tutors meet with elementary-aged children who are at least one year below grade level and have parents who are economically unable to provide private tutoring. Time commitment is one hour each week for 10 weeks September through November, and 10 weeks January through April.

Local Community/Agencies/Ministries

Abe Brown Ministries, Inc.
The Mission of Abe Brown Ministries is to compassionately demonstrate the love of Jesus by helping offenders and ex-offenders achieve productive lives. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Cornerstone Family Ministries
Serving opportunities include tutoring and assisting with classes at childcare center, receptionist help, music/art teachers and painting crews to improve the quality of life for children and families suffering from poverty. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Feeding America Tampa Bay
Feeding America Tampa Bay provides a warehouse for donated food. Volunteers serve a hot meal, do crafts with children and help sort food in the warehouse. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Florida Blood Services
Florida Blood Services provides for the blood needs of patients at 38 hospitals in four counties. Time commitment is one Sunday, every other month; donations can be made on-site.

Gleaners-Society of St. Andrew
The Society of St. Andrew gleaners feed the hungry all year by saving produce that would otherwise be wasted and giving it to the needy. Opportunities include gleaning fruits and vegetables and transportation to nonprofit organizations. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Good Samaritan Mission
Minister to the spiritual and physical needs of farm workers and the poor by providing after school tutoring, sorting clothing and preparing food baskets. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Habitat for Humanity
Help build affordable housing. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Hillsborough House of Hope
Coordinate house maintenance and supplies, write grants, mentor by mail, or become a member of the HHH speaker’s bureau for women transitioning from jail. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Judeo Christian Health Clinic
Physicians, dentists, optometrists, nurses, nurse practitioners, medical assistants, pharmacists and interpreters are needed to provide free health care to Tampa Bay’s medically indigent. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Meals on Wheels
Deliver meals weekly, bi-weekly or monthly; join the speaker’s bureau, assist with special events, or build a website while helping to nourish and enrich the independent lives of the home bound. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Metropolitan Ministries
Help care for homeless persons and those at risk of becoming homeless through services that alleviate suffering, promote dignity and instill self-sufficiency. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Salvation Army
Serve food to our community’s homeless men and women; volunteer to speak at a weekly senior women’s group; participate in the Red Kettle Drive at grocery stores during the holiday season. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Steppin’ Stone Farm
Yard work, landscaping, meal preparation and office work are needed for this home-away-from-home for 13- to 17-year-old girls with emotional problems. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

International Ministries

Communicate with missionaries abroad
Email and send cards to encourage our international missionaries. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Mission trip
Travel with a team to serve overseas. Current projects are in Nicaragua, Cuba and South Africa. Frequency of service and length of time varies, typically one week.

Assist the Praise Teams Director with music preparation and coaching students. High school time commitment is 4-8 p.m. on Sundays; Middle school time commitment is 4:45-5:45 p.m. on Wednesdays and 7-8 p.m. 1-2 times per month.

High School Praise Team instrumentalist or vocalist
Sing or play an instrument for the Praise Team.

Joyful Praise Team instrumentalist or vocalist for special occasions
Lead worship for special events, holiday services and community outreach events. Time commitment is 2.5 hours for rehearsal on Wednesday; frequency of service varies.

Joyful Praise Team instrumentalist or vocalist for worship

Soul Singers
Soul Singers Make God’s Love Real with karaoke for the residents of Woodbridge Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center in Town ’N Country. Time commitment is for two hours per month Sunday afternoons at the nursing home and 7-8 p.m. on Monday for a rehearsal.

Children's Traditional Music

Assistant to the Alleluia Choir or Junior Choir
Parents and others interested in being part of the rotation to help with the children’s choirs on Wednesdays or when the choir sings on the second Sunday of every month.

Children’s Musical - carpenter
The musical is in May and involves team work the week before the musical.

Piano accompanist

Worship and Media Arts Ministries

Altar Guild member
Work with team members to care for visual elements of worship, including altar and pulpit linens, candles and flowers. Work with families wishing to order flowers for Sundays. Time commitment is two hours per week one month per year.

Communion - prepare
Prepare communion elements for monthly communion services or weekly at the 8:30 a.m. Chapel service. Time commitment is 1-2 hours.

Communion - serve
Serve communion elements for monthly communion services or weekly at the 8:30 a.m. Chapel service. Time commitment is 1-2 hours.

Operate cameras during worship
Operate two remote cameras via joystick during worship services and special events. Time commitment is 2-4 hours one Sunday per month and some special events.

Operate lights during worship
Use lighting control board during Sanctuary worship services to ensure proper lighting for various components of the service. Time commitment is 2-4 hours one Sunday per month and some special events.

Operate MediaShout (lyric slides) during worship
Operate MediaShout software during worship services. MediaShout experience is not necessary. Time commitment is 1-2 hours.

Operate sound system during worship
Operate the sound system for Sunday worship services and occasional special services. Time commitment is 2-4 hours one Sunday per month and some special events.

Read scripture in worship
Use the dramatic arts to communicate the central themes of a worship service or read the Sunday morning scripture. No memorization required. Frequency of service and time commitment varies.

Technical Director
Manage Media Team to present appropriate media on large Sanctuary screens during Sunday services. Directors are technical and spiritual leaders of a 5-6 member team. Operate the switcher and guide other members of the team. Time commitment is 2-4 hours one Sunday per month and some special events.

Web Stream Director
Work with tech director and camera operators to coordinate the broadcast of our 9:30 and 11 a.m. Sanctuary service live via internet web streaming. Time commitment is one Sunday a month.

Worship Design team
Help design the weekly worship services. Meet monthly with staff to design elements of worship.


Youth Ministry

Fundraising

Christmas tree sale volunteer
Assist with presales of Christmas trees during October and early November at a table in the Courtyard on Sunday mornings. Assist with unloading on delivery day in late November. Time commitment is minimal.

Gasparilla parking volunteer
Assist student workers in directing traffic and collecting money during the Gasparrila Children’s Parade. Time commitment is about six hours on January 21, 2012.

High School Youth Group - Sundays

Check-in table volunteer
Record student attendance using an attendance sheet; gather new student contact information. Time commitment is 5:40-6:30 p.m. per week on Sundays.

Dinner pick up
Pick up preordered dinner for high school students and deliver it by 5:45 p.m. to the Magnolia building. Set out dinner, collect money from students and clean up. Time commitment is 5:15-6:45 p.m. per week on Sundays.

Small group leader
Disciples youth by creating a safe and open atmosphere for their specific age group. Teach and equip students while developing relationships with youth and modeling authentic Christian faith. Create times to meet as a group outside of regular youth times for bonding events and service projects as a team. Time commitment is 5:30-8 p.m. per week on Sundays, plus additional time for bonding.

Middle School Youth Group - Wednesdays

Create times to meet as a group outside of regular youth times for bonding events and service projects as a team. Time commitment is 5:45-8:15 p.m. per week on Wednesdays, plus additional time for bonding.

Sunday School

High School Sunday School facilitator
Teach, challenge and equip a class of high school students to be disciples of Christ. Develop relationships with youth, model authentic Christian faith, and work with staff to use curriculum that communicates the biblical message and basic Christian doctrine. Time commitment is one hour per week, plus preparation time.

Middle School Sunday School facilitator
Teach, challenge and equip a class of middle school students to be disciples of Christ. Develop relationships with youth, model authentic Christian faith, and work with staff to use curriculum that communicates the biblical message and basic Christian doctrine. Time commitment is one hour per week, plus preparation time.

Other Opportunities

Bus driver
Drive a 28-passenger bus or Honda Odyssey van for service events, mission trips or other outings. CDL required to drive the bus. Time commitment varies.

Confirmation small group facilitator
Lead a small group of seventh and eighth graders through a process of spiritual discovery. Time commitment is two hours per week for eight weeks in the spring plus preparation time.

Get Real Involved! event chaperone
Chaperone youth during their once a month service outing on Saturdays once per month.

High commitment class facilitator
Teach a small group of high school students based on a high commitment class curriculum (such as Discipleship Bible Study.) Time commitment is 2-3 hours per week plus preparation time.

Mission trip chaperone
Chaperone youth during summer mission trips. Time commitment is one week during the summer.

Off-site chaperone
Chaperone youth for off-site events and/or overnight trips. Help coordinate and organize the event. Time commitment varies.

Tuesday Bible study leader
Disciples youth by creating a safe and open atmosphere; teach and challenge students while developing relationships, model authentic Christian faith and work with staff to use curriculum that communicates the biblical message and basic Christian doctrine. Time commitment is 5:30-7:30 p.m. per week on Tuesdays.
