New Youth Volunteer Opportunities

New Youth Volunteer Opportunities

Youth (middle and high school students) are important to God and to this church

Here are two ways to get involved right now!

Volunteer in Traditional Worship:

  • 11 a.m. Sundays – Worship is a time when the people of faith gather together before God, as we deepen our faith and grow as disciples. We want youth to be a visible part of the leadership of our worship together.
    They can be:
acolytes, readers, singers in choir, handbell ringers, and instrumentalists. Youth involved in these activities lend a varied richness and beauty to our services, and we want them to be involved. Fill out this short form to get started.

Volunteer with Children’s Ministries:

  • 9:30-10:45 a.m. Sundays – Youth are invited to help make God’s love to real our preschool and elementary children. Contact kids@hydeparkumc.org to find out more.
  • 6:15-7:30 p.m. Wednesdays – Youth are invited to help make God’s love real to our elementary children. Contact kids@hydeparkumc.org to find out more.

2021 Third Grade Bibles

2021 Third Grade Bibles

While the year of 2021 continues to be unpredictable and different in so many ways, some things do remain the same. And that includes our traditional 3rd Grade Bible events.

We know that this year is an important year of discovery and growth for your child! By third grade, your child is ready to have their own Bible and we are beyond excited to give it to them! We are so grateful to share in this faith milestone with you and your family. We will continue this beloved tradition at Hyde Park by presenting Bibles to our children as a gift from the church.

As a beginning step, if you are interested in your child receiving a Bible, please complete this form by Aug. 29.  We will build our communication list from these completed forms so it is important that you submit this form to be included in future communications. Please share and talk it up with your fellow third-grade parent friends, as we don’t want anyone left out.

More information and details will be shared as plans become more finalized.

Parents, we have a 3 week class just for you beginning Sept. 19! Celebrate your child receiving their Bible, learn practical ways to help them use it and enjoy community and fellowship with other third grade parents in a similar life stage!
Classes meet from 10:45 a.m. – noon Sundays: Sept. 19, 26 and Oct. 3 Sign Up Here.

The Bible that your children will receive is not a story-book style Bible like they may have gotten at a younger age. This is a Bible that adults would read also, but with kid-friendly pictures and commentary. We hope you find it a joy when you spend time with your children reading it together.

Your child will be receiving the bestselling NIrV Adventure Bible(R) for Early Readers. Designed for kids ages 6-10 years, our hope is that this Bible will get them excited about God’s Word. They will be captivated with the full-color features that make reading Scripture and memorizing their favorite verses engaging and fun. Along the way they’ll meet all types of people, see all sorts of places, and learn all kinds of things about the Bible. Most importantly, they’ll grow closer in their relationship with God.

This Bible includes the complete New International Reader’s Version (NIrV) which is written at a third-grade reading level. The NIrV is perfect for children learning to read and exploring the Bible for the first time on their own. Because it is an actual Bible, the stories are not altered. The difficult and challenging parts are there, as well as the warm and light-hearted sections. For example, there are stories of kindness, love and forgiveness, along with stories of war, violence and other adult subject matters. All Bible translations have these stories and adult words in them.

One helpful tip may be to pre-read a text before embarking on it with your child.

It is our joy to serve you. Enjoy this precious time in your child’s life!
