Advent and Christmas 2020

There’s no doubt that this year is unlike any other in recent memory. So many expected things didn’t happen and so many unexpected things have happened. The first Christmas was like this. Despite being foretold by prophets for centuries, the King of Kings arrived in a most unexpected way. Instead of being born in a palace with all the trappings we would expect, he comes to us in a stable and is placed in a manger. His arrival is followed by the unexpected arrival of wise men and kings.

Online Worship Services

This year, our Christmas Eve worship services will take on an unexpected aspect. Due to current case loads in Hillsborough County, the leadership of the church has made the difficulty decision to present worship services exclusively online. While we will still celebrate his birth with music, Scripture and a message, the place where we view and participate will be different. We have the opportunity to bring this celebration into our homes through our online worship platform.

Onsite Candle-lighting Ceremony

These brief, ten-minute candle-lighting ceremonies will take place around the courtyard fountain (Hyde Park) and the Homeless Jesus sculpture (The Portico) and will feature scripture, prayer, and the exchange of candle light during “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World,” both recorded by our wonderful music ministry. In addition, the Sanctuary (Hyde Park) and Community Hall (The Portico) will be open for private prayer, and there will be opportunities for photographs in select places around the Hyde Park campus.
