Open Arms

The Open Arms ministry serves breakfast to our homeless guests each Sunday. Multiple opportunities are available throughout the week to gather food, prepare meals or interact with guests. Contact the Volunteer Coordinator for specific opportunities.

Manna Bag Ministry

DAY: Sunday and Weekday | HOW OFTEN: Monthly

Manna bags are sold the last Sunday of the month by our Youth Ministries; bags are assembled the last Wednesday of the month.

One Blood – Blood Donations

DAY: Sunday | HOW OFTEN: Every other month

One Sunday every other month, members of Hyde Park roll up their sleeves and give the gift of life by donating blood to OneBlood. Donations made at other sites may also be credited to Hyde Park, if donors indicate they are members of this congregation.

2020 Donation Dates

  • Blood donations may resume at our Hyde Park location once we reopen. Those decisions will be made in consultation with One Blood to ensure safety for donors and their staff. In the meantime, you may make a donation at any of OneBlood’s donation centers. An added benefit is that all donations will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies.

Bike Repair Ministry

DAY: Sunday // HOW OFTEN: Weekly
WHERE: Madison Building, southwest corner of Magnolia and Azeele

Each Sunday, 8-10 a.m., members of our Bike Repair Ministry meet at the church to help repair bicycles belonging to our Open Arms guests. This ministry provides a much-needed service to the community. Bicycles enable the homeless and working poor to meet their transportation needs and a working, safe bicycle is vital.

One Blood - Blood Donations

DAY: Sunday | HOW OFTEN: Every other month

Members of Hyde Park roll up their sleeves and give the gift of life by donating blood to OneBlood. During the time when our locations are closed due to COVID, donations made at One Blood’s donation centers and credited to Hyde Park. Donors should indicate they are members of this congregation.

Mission Liaison

Serve as the link between our church and a mission partner. Help with communication and coordinating serving opportunities. Pray for and support our missions partners.

Children’s Ministries Mission Projects

DAY: Varies | HOW OFTEN: Varies

Our Children’s Ministries seek to teach children and family about the importance of Missions and Outreach through various mission projects, such as filling backpacks with school supplies or preparing food bags for the homeless. Volunteers can assist with gathering supplies, teaching children or helping families complete the projects.

Mission Celebration Market

Craft vendors are welcome (space is limited) and help is always needed with set up.

Cold Weather Shelter

DAY: As Needed // HOW OFTEN: As Needed
Hyde Park United Methodist serves as a Hillsborough County cold weather shelter when local temperatures dip to or below 40 degrees with wind chill in Hillsborough County.

The Hyde Park United Methodist cold weather shelter opens at 6 p.m. (6:30 p.m. Wednesdays) on cold weather nights and is open to adult men and adult women who are homeless or for those who live in homes without adequate heat. Guests depart the following morning at 6:30 a.m. Pets are not permitted in the shelter.

Little Dresses for Missions

DAY: Weekday | HOW OFTEN: Monthly

Sewers meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the church to make dresses and shorts for missions.

Mission Smiles

Volunteers with medical and non-medical experience are welcome to help with this dental clinic.
